Solar and Storage Incentives

Tax credits, rebates, net metering and financing by country, state and province.

Find tax credits, rebates, net metering and financing programs for your country, state or province. Type a place name to filter. Programs change often, so each entry points you to the official source to confirm before you buy.

United States readers: the federal 30 percent homeowner solar credit ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. Business, farm, lease and PPA systems can still qualify for credits within new deadlines. Many state and utility programs continue.

For county and city programs in the United States, open the DSIRE link for your state, which lists local utility and municipal incentives too. In other countries, ask your utility and your national energy regulator (see Government Energy Agencies).

United States: federal

Federal tax law changed sharply in 2025. This summary reflects the rules as of September 2026. Tax rules are complex, so confirm with a tax professional before you sign.

United States

  • Homeowner credit ended. The 30 percent Residential Clean Energy Credit (Section 25D) ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025, under the law signed July 4, 2025. Homeowners who installed by that date can still claim it on their 2025 return and carry unused credit forward.
  • Leases and power purchase agreements. A company that owns a system on your roof can still claim the business credit (Section 48E) and may pass some value to you through a lower price. Solar projects that did not begin construction by July 4, 2026 generally must be placed in service by December 31, 2027.
  • Businesses, farms and nonprofits. The Section 48E investment credit and 45Y production credit remain for qualifying solar within the deadlines above, with bonus amounts for domestic content and energy communities, plus new foreign entity sourcing rules. Tax exempt groups and public bodies may use direct pay.
  • Battery storage. Business owned energy storage keeps its investment credit longer than solar, with a phase down in the early 2030s. Homeowner battery credits ended with 25D.
  • Farms and rural small businesses. The USDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) offers grants and loan guarantees for solar and efficiency. Funding rounds and limits change, so check your USDA Rural Development state office.
  • Low income solar. The EPA ended the $7 billion Solar for All program in August 2025. On September 18, 2026, a federal court in Rhode Island ruled that termination unlawful and set it aside, and the EPA said it is considering an appeal. Ask your state energy office whether its Solar for All program has restarted.
